Precautions to Take to Keep Healthy and Safe

For anyone, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important. But for healthcare workers, it’s crucial, because your health means you are alert and prepared to help those who are ill.

When thinking about how to live a healthy lifestyle pre-COVID-19, the answer would’ve been simple: Maintain an active routine and eat nourishing foods.

But now, amidst the pandemic and into the future, determining what encompasses a healthy lifestyle is a bit more complex. Consider the following:

  1. Be aware of CDC guidelines. As scientists and researchers learn more about the COVID-19 virus, precautions can change. So, make sure to keep updated on the latest protocols.

  1. Limit interactions. The public is currently allowed to gather in groups of 10 or more people, but you may want to limit the number of people with whom you come in contact. That’s because the more you expose yourself to the public, the greater your chances of contracting the virus.
  1. Consider your personal protocols: In most areas, when entering a business, you are required to wear a mask until seated or you move to an outdoor area. But, in your private home, if you are interacting with others outside your immediate circle, you may want to wear a mask or social distance. Remember: While you may be taking precautions to avoid your exposure to the virus, others around you might not be doing the same.
  1. Continue your pre-Covid-19 protocols: While COVID-19 precautions may be top of mind right now, it is still important to have a daily routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle in general. So, keep in mind all areas of your life, including eating, sleeping, and working out regularly.

Although some of these adjustments may be inconvenient, it’s important to remember that, if you aren’t healthy, you can’t care for those in need. When you commit to the medical field, you commit to respecting and prioritizing your health so you can, in turn, help others.
